OEM was 15,16 but you can go 17 and at a push, 18 but they will make for a harsher ride.

I ran all year round on 16 with winter tyres to be honest, never had the tram lining problem and I wanted to keep the car OEM.
My personal opinion is that to large a rim can make a Z look like a hay cart.

The standard off set is et41 19's fit but 18's is as big as i would go.
I think the standard rims are 7.5j
The easiest way to work out what fits is with this site .
www.willtheyfit.com
Stick in the standard fitment and then what you want and it will aid you in getting the right set up.

18's absolute maximum. As HT said they look like prams if you go bigger!

18's are perfect on the Z3 1.9 1997 model, you can fit 235 to the rear, but i would go 225 all round, ET between 38 and 41 is perfect, and the ride is not harsh. If you want to stay OEM looking then go for period 17" alloys either as fitted to sport models or M3 alloys. Best tyres are Maxxis MA Z1.

I know the above works as I have fitted both types to mine and currently have 18's fitted, both sets have had the Maxxis MA Z1 fitted.

Agree with you there Tony. I wanted to get some more Maxxis for the rears on my 3 but they're no longer available in my size:(. I've been really pleased with them, shame they're not available any more.
