1998 bmw m roadster switch

Does anyoneknow what this red/ button is? This is my 1998 M bmw roadster

The little silver is a button under the little red light. It looks aftermarket. I was just curious

It's one of those aftermarket immobiliser/alarms could be either or both .
If still operating you should have a black plastic thing on you key that maybe looks like a little bullet if you hold end against silver bit it will arm then touch again will disarm.

This is my Dakar key it has something similar just a different design.

Thanks stephen. I didnt get a little black dakar. So guess it isnt activated. We just bought the car from a dealer and he didnt know.

Sorry, just came across this post today. I have the exact LED in my 1998 M Roadster. The LED flashes when the OEM alarm is activated. The other is a microphone for the glass break alarm. My car has the OEM alarm system but no glass break function that I can see.
