2.8 Backbox - where from?

As per the title, I need a new back box for my Zed and don't really fancy paying the stealer's extortionate £650. However, I can't seem to find any OE spec ones or even any of the "performance" variety.

Is something from the likes of Longlife my only option or are there any off the shelf backboxes for the 2.8?

All help much appreciated.

(p.s. I've tried the breakers I could find too but none has a backbox in stock - seems to be a very rare part)

I stand out enough in the Impreza as it is :)

£250 for a custom back box is not bad though... have a call into Longlife to see what they come back with price-wise.

longlife will usually do you a full catback system in stainless for about £300. Might be worth doing if its going in anyway.

There is a 750 motor club race series that allows a rear box change but most of the car stays standard. I have no idea what the cost is but the company that supplies the "controlled parts" is Rouge Motorspots limited on 01926810104 has to be worth a call. By the way they use the same rear box for both the M52B28 and M52TUB28 engines. That is the single and dual vanos units of the 2.8. I am talking to them today/tomorrow about coil overs so I will try and get a price when they call me back today/tomorrow. They were at Anglesey racing yesterday. Hence the delay in getting back to me they are travelling back today

Ooh Duncan that brings back memories when I used to follow my mate racing in one of the 750 Motor Club classes back in the early 90's, great series and was great to talk to folk in the pits and glean information you could translate to your own road car. There are many racing teams up and down the country that have amassed an enormous amount of knowledge which can be used to improve your own car.

Just to add the race series did not take off although the guys stocked up with parts for it so I am off up there in the morning I will try to remember to ask about the exhaust.

Patrick has a z3 2.8 with all the kit on that was proposed for the race series so I am off up there to try it out on the road and see what I think. It is a 1998 so the same as Black for the Track so should be interesting. I am most looking forward to charting with him. Also PM'd Mike Fishwick today as nick from trackday register mentioned that mike had filed something in the knowledge base on BMWCCGB about stiffening up the Z3 and it boils down to undercar braces much like the strut brace and apparently does more than strut braces. It will also be interesting to chat to Patrick about that as well.
