You have a serious problem, mate.

I don't think there is a medical name for it, maybe 'zeditis', but it is a problem. ;)

Was the 'short stay parking' sign intentional? If not, it is very apt.

First weekend with the car so out around the Peak District this morning.

Not exactly ideal conditions with zero visibility in parts and certainly no roof down activity due to the inclement weather.

Still everything feels better after a coffee and a bacon sandwich and at the end of the day out is always better than in :coolsteer)

Drove over through Buxton on our way to Wales today, about 50 yards visibilty over the top then absolutely torrential rain on the A55! Hope the weather is better tomorrow.

Let's hope so - when I collected it Friday I hit the worse storm I think I've ever driven in in the UK on the M5 on my way back home. I honestly thought the windscreen was going to come through.

Unfortunately I can't upload the video but the hailstones drowned out my Mrs when she was calling me for an ETA =))

The car was booked in with Sytner Sheffield this week to have the recall issue resolved but unfortunately they contacted me to advise they have a worldwide shortage on the required parts - on the basis they haven't seen the car I can only assume they mean the Vanos screws.

Anyway it's now on a waiting list and they have agreed to contact me once the necessary parts are back in stock.

In the meantime I got busy with the code reader so it looks like a couple of microswitches will be required in the not to distant future :bashhead:

I got the first wash on the car last week ahead of the Thoresby show and treated all the rubber seals with Swissvax - much to my surprise since I did that the intermitent roof fault has gone away.

Today I attached the code reader and cleared the faults before taking the car out and intentionally using the roof on numerous occasions both with the engine on and with the engine off.

Reattached the code reader only to find all the fault codes had disappeared. Happy days - so called the ZedShed and cancelled the appointment I had booked for next week. Not sure if it's a temporary thing or a function of the car not being used much before I bought it but I guess time will tell.

Anyway I fitted the new halo bulbs that arrived from Amazon - I didn't mind the pre-facelift look so I've kept the bulbs in case I decide to switch back

It is amazing what a bit of silicone-based goo can do for the rubber seals. It may have just been a 'sticky' seal, or a slightly 'stiff' (ooer) one causing one of the hall sensors or microswitches from making. It doesn't take much.

If only the other 99% of E89 owners out there, not on forums, knew about keeping the seals lubricated, there would be many less problems with roofs and water ingress.

Happy days if that is all it took to solve the issue.

After a couple of false starts I managed to get rid of the original plates and swap them out for a set of non-dating plates that I picked up off the Z4Forum - they were originally on an M40i.
