36mm Oil filter socket

Hi, does anyone in Tasmania Australia have a 36mm socket/filter removal socket I can borrow to remove the oil filter on my 2.2i?

Alternatively, can I use my own adjustable wrench to remove it without damaging it?

I really don't want to spend $20 for a tool I will hardly ever use [well, it gives me time to hunt around for a cheaper one!] I have to order one in as I cannot seem to find one here.

I used a pair of water pump pliers to remove mine. I put a cloth around the housing to prevent marking it.
But you really should use the correct tool. My local car spares outlet sold me a "BMW 36mm oil filter socket" made by Lazer tools for about UK £10
