A colleague at work does a bit of rally driving (has for many years) and has not one but two Talbot Sunbeam Lotus Twin Cam. This one is finished and he's working on another but an uptake in power from 155bhp to 200+

@andyglym .
Now that's a rare beast a Lotus Sunbeam.
Now that was a rare car even back in the day when the Talbot Sunbeam was still in production I have only ever seen 1 in the flesh and that was years ( even decades) ago .

Looks a lot like the Dodge Shelby Omni.
Faster than a Camaro back in the day pushing around 180/200 hp after the Shelby treatment.

(edit - ok I googled it, it is an Omni, or the Omni is a Sunbeam - still a stunning car in both versions)

The Chrysler arm of the Routes Group stole a few models, the Dodge Omni, Plymouth Cricket then of course there was the VW Rabbit.

My old man had a Plymouth Cricket when he was stationed at RAF Bruggen in Germany in the late 70s.

Isn't the cricket the same as the uk hillman avenger? My brother had hillman avengers. If I'm not mistaken that's where the rear wheel drive talbot sunbeam evolved from?

Absolutely spot on. The Dodge Omni was their version of the Talbot Horizon. I had 3 different versions of the Avenger, which I preferred over the Ford Escort. Best one was a 1977 1600 ls 4dr.

Agree with Tony, always preferred the Avenger/Sunbeam to the Escort particularly the Lotus Sunbeam. A guy I was at School with had a black one lucky beggar, not that I was jealous at all. :whistle:

I was just about to mention the Tiger. People did talk about it back in the day but I never saw one and don't know what the 'Tiger' ingredients entailed.

I think twin webbers, uprated suspension, wider wheels, better brakes, sports seats & spoilers, yellow paint with matt black bonnet, tiger decals & black go faster stripes. Probably not that fast by modern standards but seemed pretty quick back in the day.
