Hi, I'm probably in the wrong section but I'm looking for some advice about selling my Zed. I've owned this car for the last 8 years and it has 2 previous owners from new. The mileage is 95,750 ish and it has a part service history up to 88,000. The bodywork is excellent for a 23 year old car and It's a joy to drive.
It comes complete with factory fitted hardtop, hardtop hoist, hardtop cover and hardtop stand. It also has the soft top cover, tailored Z3 car cover, soft top window cover and tonneau cover. All discs/pads and handbrake cables changed recently, along with the battery. It's booked in for it's MOT next week and will have oil/filter change at same time.

My otherhalf and I are over 65 and are now finding it difficult to get in/out the car with the roof on. I'm looking to sell but not sure what to ask or where to advertise. I haven't sold a car for a good few years, what sort of price should I be asking? Many thanks.

Personally, I would advertise the car with or without the hardtop and it's associated bits. Many buyers aren't bothered about a hard top or have space to store one, but those who do want one will pay good money for the whole kit. Nice car by the way.👍

I think the £6.5k above would be far too low. The market does fluctuate, but I still think £7.5 - £8 k minimum, without the hard top.

Couple of questions..Auto or manual? Sports or non sports seats?

Manuals and sports seats generally are more sought after

It's a manual with non sports seats. I'll take some internal pic's for the advert, thanks.

Nothing has been changed since it came out of the factory, apart from the aerial which as been changed to a "stubby" (I think I still have the original)

There are a few bad bits: The rubber on aerial mount has perished, Drivers seat bolster is worn on entry side, some LEDs on the radio don't work, The stitching is starting to come away above the window in the soft top, There are a couple of small dings and repaired stone chips on the bodywork but not many considering its age. Should I point these out in the advertisement? Or let the buyer negotiate on this points?

The MOT is booked in for Wednesday and once I've sorted out any advisories and had the oil/filter change, I'll put it up for sale. I've been thinking of using the Auto trader "Ultimate" package at £75 as it's the only one that allows you to rebook until sold. I looked at Ebay motors but once you pay the listing fee (£15) and the final fee (1%, max £45) it works out expensive, especially if it doesn't sell or the buyer doesn't turn up. I haven't sold a car for over 8 years so I'm a bit out of touch with new advertisers and don't want to end up paying multiple fees.

Many thanks to all that replied, I really appreciate your comments.

I would point out any defects in the ad. It always puts me off when I get there or have to ask beforehand. A grommet is cheap and easy enough to sort and a visit from the dentman would be money well spent before putting up for sale as I think you would lose more in the sale if not...
Have a look at Piston heads and car and classic as well.
Good luck 🤞

Wouldn't touch ebay these days, just do some form of classified advert and say that you will only negotiate a price in person, to avoid all the stupid offers etc. Facebook marketplace is free to advertise, I've sold a couple of cars on there. Wherever you sell it you can usually tell if someone is genuine by the questions they ask about the car. NOT, will you take x quid without seeing it, or I can't get to see it, but if you send me all your bank details I'll arrange for collection etc!😂

I think you’ll get more if you sell the car and hardtop separately. Many aren’t bothered by having the hardtop as so many Z3s are for good weather use only these days and, as has been said before, not everyone has the storage space.

Thanks again for your replies.
I've taken onboard your comments and replaced the aerial grommet & taken some internal pictures.

I'm going to list the hardtop & accessories as an option. I'll remove the factory fittings and sell everything as a job lot if the car buyer doesn't require it. Although the hardtop hoist allows it to be stored above the car and the frame allows it to be stored anywhere alongside the car.

The car passed it's MOT today with no advisories and is now standing at exactly 96,000 miles. I'll advertise in the correct section of this forum before posting on the recommended sites. Cheers

No, I'm sorry but it's being advertised with the car.
If the buyer doesn't need the hardtop then I would advertise this once the car has sold.
Thanks for your interest.
