My 2003 z4 is due an mot late april.Im in the dilemma of should i sell it with no mot,and save myself having to bring it to yet another mechanic who may rip me off like the last time,and also the trauma of going to an mot.Therefore let a new owner do all that,maybe they are more mechanically minded than me.Or my self doing all that including mot, and selling it.The car is driving very well ,but the 3 traction lights remain on.If i sell it im going to try, and get a z3 6 cylinder,wide body.Any advise?

Personally I would get it MOT'd and see what happens, if it passes happy days, if not you can make the decision. Personally I think you would loose too much money on the sale without an MOT unless of course it fails and the repair costs are too high.

Traction control lights on will be a fail. I wouldn't want to pay good money for a car with that fault. Even dealers are wise to that, and some won't take it in p/x without an MOT cert. or only at reduced value. Did you ever get a print out of the faults stored on the ECU?

I agree with Tony regardless of whether the rest of the car would pass or not any abs traction control lights on would be a fail.
Like Tony has said have you had anyone tell you what the fault codes that are putting the lights on are.

Or once lockdown eased a bit is there a forum member near you with a code reader to plug in to read fault.

When I was looking for a Z an Mot fail was what I wanted as it’s about 1/3 of the value of an Mot’d car.
Under the new rules non mot cars can’t be driven except to the nearest mot station and have an appointment.

Having just done a couple on my wife’s e82, and need to replace one on a relatives Jag, abs sensors are cheap and easy to replace. £8 for the Jag, or £22 for 4, which I’m tempted to do as mys canner isn’t for the Jag, so only tells me a fault, not which one.
