Air conditioning issue

Apologies for the second question in close succession; another issue I currently have with my Z4 2.2 is the airconditioning... I was hoping it'd just a need a recharge and service but I am now (after doing these) quoted 1K for fixing this (the air conditioning still does not blow cold air), apparently it's an electrical fault and the best suggestion I've been offered so far is to replace the console part in its entirety. I am a bit surprised this is such an expensive fix; any ideas of alternatives? Other than putting the roof down of course.

My Air conditioning packed up last year when i was in Italy in 30 degrees. Took it to a BMW Dealer and they fixed in a couple of hours and refused to take a payment (slipped them 20 euro) Apparently it was a break in the wiring within the engine bay. They found it fairly quickly.
Was the price quoted from an independant garage or a BMW Dealer ?

I found a local air con specialist for my Mini, might be worth a phone around andget some different advice.

Yes; I can only guess they didn't particularly want to do it and hence that price quotation. I will look for a BMW indie locally and see how that goes.

I used a bog standard local Indy to replace the compressor on the LR last year. They need the right kit to handle the refrigerant. Have you had the pressure checked?

I know someone who uses a guy who normally maintains agricultural machinery. He comes to you and is even cheaper than the Indys.
