Re: Airbag

Think I've answered my own question, Parker's says no pass airbags before 99? Mines 98

Reason I ask is glovebox off to fix alarm today and noticed no airbag in dash for pass.

Would appreciate confirmation either way, also found quite a few "unused" plugs in engine bay, guess this is standard too...?

Thx

Re: Airbag

if my memory is correct it was an option up until the facelift when it became standard.

Re: Airbag - updated question ref light

hi all

after diagnosing an airbag light as being the pass occ mat (following threads on both zroadster sites), i got one of those plugs on ebay to solve the issue, only to realise after (blonde moment) that i dont have a passenger airbag (this was when i fixed alarm, looked up to airbag position and was empty). i gather its an option on early 98 cars.

well today i had the seats out to fix the seatbushes, thanks aceman, and thought i'd see if there was a pass matt and connector needed, but as expected no. so the pass matt canx plug was a waste of time and will be for sale, but thats a diff matter

so, what are the other causes of the airbag light i can check? i have another day off tomorrow, so plan to do the drivers bush, and as per the pass seat today, i will clean all elec connectors, but before i get the light reset by my indy, what else can i look at?

thanks all, i have searched, but all seem to point at pass occ mat, sorry if i repeat a thread i missed on my search

also i found the foam under the carpet on pass side to be soaking wet! clean water as no smell, but a lot of it... but i'll do some searching then post another thread if i dont find info i need

cheers

paul

p.s: this post is on both zroadster sites, so if your a dual member which a lot of us seem to be, then please only reply on one site :)

Have you tried an airbag code reader? Not sure where you are in the country, but I have one of these B800 Airbag Reset Tool

It reads the fault codes and also resets the light if needed...

hello, and thanks for the reply

not as such. one was used to reset the light by the trader i got the car from, but, when i got back from that first epic drive, the missus decided to play with the pass seat, and the light came one again.

have just invested in a service light reset tool, and was tempted to try the car to laptop cables and use INPA etc (f that would reset the code?) but maybe a code reader and airbag code reader would be an option too

thanks again, im in southampton

From your description it sounds like a dodgy connection under the passenger seat. Wouldn't entirely rule the wet patch out either - water and electrics never go well together. Whatever it is sounds intermittent, which is why your garage "fixed" it the first time.

If you ever happen to be passing this way, you are more than welcome to drop in for a free read of the codes ;)

Thanks Gaz. Have ordered a USB/obd cable and downloaded inpa so will read some codes and find out what's up.

Will also trace pass side leak and dry carpet when we have some heat again.

Re: Airbag - question updated 9/9/12

thanks again all for replys

used my new usb cable to read the codes, passenger restraint... so, im hoping its a loose/dry connection, and have cleaned the connectors, reinsulated and reset the fault/airbag light. have moved the pass seat around and so far so good.

now onto another issue that has risen its head... but thats another thread

thanks again, this inpa is going to be useful!

Bit of a bump here folks

My zed failed mot yesterday due to a dimly light airbag light. When plugged into a fault reader there are no airbag faults coming up.

I should mention the its so dim that when the handbrake light is on the airbag light doesn't look lit in comparison.

Do i need a specific fault clearer as above?

Any help is appreciated

Not sure why the light is dim, but I guess it's "on" so is a failure... :(

You can buy the B800 Air bag too dirt cheap off eBay, and it should tell you if there is a fault or not. Should hopefully be able to see what the issue is and fix it, then use it to reset the light.

Used it successfully on mine several times!
