Alloy Size

Hi All,

I have a 2009 E89 sdrive 23i and want to change up to 18” alloys from my current 17” ones.

My question is around rim size.

The normal set up is 8J front and 8.5J on the rear but would 8.5J front and back be ok as I like the Axe CS Lites but they only do 8.5J?

The guy in the alloy wheel shop said they will be fine and has suggested 225x40x18 tyres to go on them.

Thoughts?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I have the original 19" wheels from my 23i for sale. 3 tyres have 7mm Bridgestone and 1 needs a tyre. If you fancy those.

I would suggest that 225 on the rear will be a little underwhelming. This is a chance to run something a little thicker in the rear. If it was me, 225/40/18 on the front and 255/35/18 in the rear to give it a little width. Both will fit on an 8.5j rim without issue.

Another factor to consider is the offset of the wheels, usually listed as ETxx, for example. I am not familiar with the e89 to advise on the limitations of offset but the deeper the concave look you want, the lower the offset will be. Usually better aesthetically to have the lower offset wheel in the rear and higher on the front.

On 19” E89 23i fronts are ET29 (8”) and rears are ET40 (9”).
