Alloys - what to get - 78's MV1 or MV2

Probably been covered a thousand times but hey-ho.
Looking at alloys at the moment, watching several on Ebay and Gum tree.
At the moment my order is MV2, 78's then MV1

Looking at some older post it seems its a mine field when it come to getting the right size wheel/tyre combo.
The 78's is not an issue.
The MV2's and MV1's have different off sets, sizes etc depending if they come off a E46 or a 5 series.

Can anyone confirm if the following will fit my Zed please. -

No 4 is the most expensive but look in really good shape. No refurb needed on those for a while.

@miller1098 has MV1's and @Grumpy has MV2's so yes they will fit your Zed

I don't believe MV 1/2's were fitted to any 5 series - they may be replicas around but not genuine ones.
The e39 5 series has a different (bigger) centre bore I believe which is not ideal as you need to use spigots to make it fit.

I'm sure I read on a post on here back a while ago that there were differences between the 3 and 5 series wheels..
Maybe it was just the tyre sizes.
All a bit confusing to be ho est.

These are mine mv2's.

If your on a computer zoom in to see tyres sizes as I'm not a home to have a look at the minute. They are 18's with an et41. The front is very snug but backs fit lovely.

Is the ride very hard compared to say 16" or even 17" wheels fitted to the zeds?

I didn't find much difference going 17 to 18s any tyre wall difference in theory has an impact but i have found nothing that makes it feel alarming and it is a sports car after all.Is the car lowered or will it be ? I have a 35 drop too and still find it exceptable.

Yes it's rather firm mate. I would go 17's to be honest.

No all standard at the moment.

I'm my experience If your shocks are knackered the difference between 17 and 18 feels worse. Chances are your shocks are in fact knackered if they are the original ones being a decade and a bit old now!
On fresh suspenion it's not so noticeable.

Well funny you should say that @Dino D as there are plans to do the brakes and suspension at the Zed Shed midlands ltd, in fact it should have been done by now but had to hold off for a bit.

@Grumpy 's wheels are from the M3 style 67. The MV2 are style 135 and MV1 are style 72. MV2 were fitted to % series as I had them on my old 530d one problem with them is they are a pain to keep clean between the spokes as it it is a small gap.

The difference between 5 and 3 wheels is the offset with The MV" the 5 is 20 offset and the 3 is 47 for the 8" and 50 for the 8.5".

All mine suspension is new , always liked the z3 in stock form to drive but on 18's they look better alittle lower. I was afriad the lowering would spoil the car but it hasn't and love the way it drives and feels on 18's

Thanks Brian. I've learnt something today. I knew my wheels were off an M3 but didn't know the style number, 67, I shall remember that now.

@DirtyDog, not on your list (MV1 & 2) mine are MV3 18". Not able to compare to others but ride well.

Well today I went and picked up Lowriders spare set of &78's.
i do like the look of the 78's on the Zed. The wheels will need a full refurb next winter to get them looking there very best, but are great for the time being.
I bottled on the MV2's, still really like them and they are relatively cheap.
Again, the MV3 look real good, but a lot more expensive,

Would like to thank everyone for their feedback on this, really helped with my decision

Also, if i get mine looking similar to Panther then maybe @BMBabe might get confused and jump in mine and then I can steal that 2.2 Zed of hers.

78's look awesome, it's an easy decision. Not a fan of the MV range on the Z3, but then I like wheels that are a little different!

i personally dont like any of the MV range on the zeds either, they suit the e46 much better.

i might have a set of Borbet A's coming up for sale soon 17 x 8.5
