I have a 2000 Z3, and am replacing the original Blaupunkt head end, this model has 2 front spk's, 2 back, 2 door, and a blown sub in the back between the seats. Ordered a repalcement sub that will fit in the housing under the 'T'. Trouble is I am not sure how the Sub is driven, there is no amp, have looked hi and low. What does the group thnk is driving the Sub? The head end?

When there is a sub, it's normally in the right side of the boot/trunk.

Looked there, under the seats, and pulled the passenger side kick plate, no amp. My assumption is it was daisy chained behind the rear two speakers?? So no direct wires from the headend..there are two positives and two negative wires connected to the old sub.

If the amp is on the passengers kick panel speaker, it is mounted on the back of the speaker, so it's hard to see with the speaker in place.

In the "Resources" section of this forum, there are a number of electrical trouble shooting manuals. They are build date specific and there are two specifically for great britain. Download the one that matches your car. Read up on the audio drawings and see if there is an amp for your system. There are parts location diagrams in the rear of the document.

Thanks for all the help, I was able to get the new unit working properly today. I never found an amp, however.. the first time I hooked all the cables up the unit powered up fine, but no sound.... so the one cable I had not connected was a blue one labeled external control, it was also labeled as the power antenna connection, this Z doesn't have a powered antenna, so I figured what could hurt, hooked it up and SOUND!!!! even the blown subwoofer crackled and popped.. so there must be an amp buried somewhere in there...
