My s***'s custom!
My car has developed an issue that's annoying me.....and my neighbours. The alarm keeps going off. The problem is it doesn't stop when I blip the key. The key still remotely locks and unlocks the car and activates the Gaptech. I thought I'd fool it by securing the car in the garage and then leaving the car unlocked thus not setting the alarm.....but it still keeps going off anyway.

Any ideas?

90% of the time its the switch under the bonnet at the back in the center. Best to get a new one i have not had to do it. But its a very common problem and i would say your first point of call mate. I think the switch is simple unplug and swap job and not too expensive.

Sorry, only just seen this. Sounds like Matt has the answer. I'll be interested in the outcome just in case!

If it's similar to the Z3 where the switch is at the front of the ca,r on the slam panel you can just unplug it - the alarm system still works but obviously the bonnet is not protected.

I believe it dose work the same i am sure others have just disconnected it.

But it is located between the fire way braces at the back on the passenger bulkhead.

Its a good way of checking to see if that is the problem. Disconnect and if the problem stops

Sorry, wasn't suggesting the switch on the Z4 is at the front of the engine compartment, but that's where it is on the 3.

Does the bonnet switch have a tamper circuit in it? If not, why does it cause the alarm to sound even if it's not set?
Surely it would go off when you open the bonnet.
Not saying it isn't that switch - just trying to understand how and why it triggers the alarm.

No idea mate I just know it is a known issue. I guess it must be a tamper circuit otherwise it wouldn't be there?

As far as i know the switches are just that NC going NO do not think there is a tamper circuit on them. Other thing could be the tilt sensor but not sure how this operates

Just a thought but.. If your car battery is faulty it upsets the alarm?
Maybe disconnect and charge, thus giving the alarm time to reset itself,
Maybe.... :nurse:

Now that could be a shout as I've just come back from holiday and it's been sat for a while in the garage without a trickle charger. Cheers buddy.

I've had exactly same issue. Try to disconnect the bonnet sensor, if this cure the problem just get used one from ebay for a tenner or so! 30 seconds to swap.

The problem with the bonnet switches is that the plunger is not long enough does not push the contacts open far enough, vibrations etc. allow the contacts to close momentarily which sets off the alarm. The later style bonnet switches have a longer plunger which in turn moves the switch contacts away from the contact plate.
