The Mrs has been helping clean up some of the parts from the Lanc as they don't have enough work for her in the naffi through the winter. As long as she doesn't have anything to do with the wings it'll be ok =))

Daz3 your good lady is continuing a fine tradition of ladies who worked on Lancs. Avro would have struggled to build as many without the British equivalent of Rosie's riveters.
I was last at East Kirkby a year ago and thought the a/c looked like it could be wheeled out, fired up and flown but I understand that some pretty heavy structural work is required first.

It'll fly, I mean look at the condition some of the aircraft made it back in during war times, it's just all the red tape and jumping through hoops to get it all above board and 'legal'.
Personally I can't see how much more it can draw to the museum all there event days this year were sold out pretty much they physically can't get anymore people in. Having said that it would be awesome seeing it in the air.

That is the big problem, the CAA are not known as the campaign against aviation for nothing and now that they are under EASA it is worse.

Thanks Daz3. If the legal obstacles are too high then the next best thing is preserving the a/c in a running and taxiable condition. Not bad for an a/c that stood outside exposed to the weather outside RAF Scampton for years.

I think the aim is to get it in the air else what would be the point of stripping all the paint off to check for corrosion etc if they just want to continue taxiing.

Would make sense they want to fly it!! Mucho bucks to be made if they can get it into the air! My FIL was aboard several during WWII and won his only medal of the war for an injury he received. He walked into something on the plane and split his head open!! Fortunately the only wound he received. JIM

I suppose your right @oldcarman as they'd get revenue from flying for shows all over the UK etc didn't think about that. Trouble is the days it's out people won't be going to see it at the museum.

I got the impression this year from the news that no Lanc would ever be flying again?

That's what I thought too HT but it would be nice to get that bird to fly again! Don't know if it can ever happen but hoping anyway. It's a sight everyone should have a chance to see in their lifetime. JIM

I have just caught up with progress on the Lancaster. I didn't realise it was so well advanced. It would be excellent to see it fly again.

Not sure Mike, hasn't been in the news lately though so I expect it's mothballed away somewhere while our gov't decides where it will go! And we both know how quick they operate! The FIL used to work on the planes the Air Force Ass'n worked on in Winnipeg but everyone I knew has past on including the FIL so have lost my contacts. All the vets still alive from our Legion were sailors except one that flew Lancs but he's got Alzheimer's now but had some pretty hair raising stories to tell about his experiences. JIM

Better off just sitting on your porch and getting drunk and talking about Lancs Jim.
