My car failed to start this morning, would hardly turn over, I did notice it was weak when I started it yesterday, anyway put it on charge this morning for 4 hours and cleaned the terminals, still would not turn the starter over, the indicator on the battery shows Green (Fully Charged) it lies, as lights are dim and dash lights are dim it looks like a complete breakdown of the battery has occured, Just hoping it is nothing else:rolleyes: Got a battery from Europarts for £49.80 reduced from £80. Anyone know of any other faults that could cause this? after saying that, it does look like the original battery. I will check the date when I get it out later.

If the battery flattens on the E85/6 Z4 it can end up putting the car in to "transport mode" which turns down/off some items so if left on in transit won't flatten the battery. It affects things like the aircon, vent fans and a few other controls.

If after the new battery is charged the symptoms persist then you may need to find someone who can switch off transport mode, or take it to your local $tealer to do.

Just hope it is the battery Gary:thumbsup: been fine until yesterday, it now wont hold a charge at all, but shows all the signs of being fully charged i.e. Showing green on battery, does not accept full charge from the battery charger which goes into trickle mode when connected to charger.

I believe that INPA will cover checking and reset. GT-1 is another protocol which should do it, so if you can find a reset tool that does both then you should be covered.

May also be helpfull in resolving my other issues, seat heaters for one. and a problem on drivers window, Gary any idea with the window one, they were working OK but now the drivers side goes down when you put the hood down it does not go up when you close it, I have been told that there is a reset procedure for this that can be done?

Yes there is a reset procedure for the windows. Had this very issue myself once upon a time!

Initialization is performed on the power window switch of the relevant door.
Requirements for correct initialization:
• Initialization with engine running
• Convertible top, doors and windows closed

Initialization comprises:
• Erasure of initialization
• Reinitialization

An initialization must be performed:
• In the event of malfunctions, e.g. no one-touch control function, no opening or if available no comfort function is possible
• After the power window drive has been replaced
• After work is carried out on the power window mechanism
• After a power supply interruption, e.g. disconnection of the battery or disconnection of the power supply to the door
• After the door window glass has been removed and installed or replaced
• After adjustment work on the door window glass
• After adjustment work on the convertible top
• After replacement of seals

Erasure of initialization:
• Open door window glass fully
• Operate power window switch in "Open" position four times within 10 seconds

This erases initialization of the power window, anti-trapping protection and toll function are inactive.
Check whether one-touch control (toll) function is inactive, otherwise repeat procedure.

Reinitialization:
Avoid a break between the two steps!
• Open door window glass fully
• Operate and hold power window switch in "Close" position (second switch stage)
• Once the upper end position has been reached, hold power window switch in "Close" position for approx. 2 seconds longer
• Open door window glass fully
• Operate and hold power window switch in "Close" position (second switch stage)
• Once the upper end position has been reached, hold power window switch in "Close" position for approx. 2 seconds longer

New Battery fitted and all is good, did not go into transport mode, Not sure but I think this only applies on cars after 2005, never known a battery to go down so quick, had the old battery on charge all day, connected it up and not a bit of charge in it, wouldnt even light the dash up. And fixed my windows (Thanks Gary)

............... not sure if anyone has anything else better or can recommend.
Hi Jim, Glad you got problem sorted. I have BM Technics package (including INPA) and as you know I 'm not far down the road from you, if you need anything checking in the future let me know. I've never tried it on the Z4 but it should work. I couldn't offer this time as we are away until 6th Sept. Cheers

That procedure needs to be copy and pasted and added to the DIY How to Forum site or whatever it is called Gaz! The Index on repair procedures....

I had it happen to me on my zed about 3 years ago, just managed to get it bump started and drive to a local battery shop where I got it replaced. I couldn't believe it either as it just died without warning.

Batteries nowadays do seem to fail very quickly. Perhaps down to how they're made these days. Phone batteries do too.

Tony.
