Hi. I have a z4 3.0si with the Bluetooth preparation. I have checked I have Bluetooth using the Model archive.

I have followed all the instructions in the manual, can not pair though. The radio does not seem to go into pairing mode. Can you help?

Hi @adyorton

Spent many an hour trying to figure this out with a mate, just spoke to him and this is the sequence he remember.
  • Hold down the button on the console for 3 seconds before ignition on (essential)
  • While holding the button down turn key to 2nd position
  • After a few seconds it should say Bluetooth Preparation on the display at which point it should be discoverable.
We then found that once it was bonded for the first time it would connect pretty much straight away each time.

Hope that helps, Gary

Please come back and tell us the result, did the above work?

My pet hate on forums is people rarely report back after advice has been provided, especially if more than one remedy provided, be nice to close out threads properly. Plus we get some instructions to wiki.

Sorry I have not replied earlier. Afraid this did not work. Can not get it into the pairing mode. I know the roof motor and ecu were replaced before I bought the car. Could it be possible that the Bluetooth was not reconnected ? Or is there a fuse?
Your yelp is really appreciated.

Found this:

" I have a z4 convertible, to pair my phone i press and held r/t button on the opening panel in between the seats (not the button on the steering wheel) for 5 seconds when the ignition is in position 1, and then keeping the button pressed i turned the ignition to position 3 and the radio showed "bt pairing" message (mine does not have a nav system?"

Also just as a thought from BT on my Volvo, have you deleted all other previous paired phones, I found on the Volvo, I needed to do this to get the car to set up a new phone, I think they only store so many pairings.

I'll double check with my mate again. Which button are you holding down when starting the ignition? It's the one by the cradle not the the one on the wheel.

Unfortunately no access to software. And yes, the button on the cradle in the phone prep.

It sounds like 1 of two things...

1) The bluetooth module has been removed from the car at some stage

2) The bluetooth module has been damaged or improperly replaced

Other than that, without seeing the car I am not sure what else it could be.

Thanks for the response, I will check. I believe it's mounted behind the seats, is that correct?

Well finally got round to locating the module. Can't see a problem with the connections, so have to presume its a problem with the module.

I tried to pair my iPhone 6 unsuccessfully about 20 times, and then it just paired, I didn't do anything different on the successful attempt..I was just persistent ....
