Does anyone know a source of the M caliper blue, I have read lots of forums and they are stating san marino or estoril but it is clearly none of those

It's a hotly debated point. And a lot of cr*p is spoken. I've spent ages looking into it myself before.

The other colour, in fact the one that crops up most is Monte Carlo.

I think the reality is it's information BMW have never released. Or perhaps don't even know as they are produced externally - by Brembo?

Can you hi-jack the next BMW with M callipers that comes in to the shop and mix something up to match?

Or spray some test cards up and poke them through the spokes of cars in the supermarket to refine a match?

I really wouldn't trust anything you read on the internet!

I was going to leave the calipers grey due to the body colour, however I have seen a BM in a similar colour with Blue calipers and it look cool

I have been wondering this for a while too for the brake job that I still haven't started despite getting my calipers at zedfest last year. I wanted to paint the calipers BMW blue but like you couldn't find anything online.

Eventually I found this on ebay which i was going to use as it looks like a nice blue, obviously not the exact BMW blue shade but looked nice nonetheless. Wonder if it actually looks like the picture when painted on though.

If you do manage to mix something up in the shop it would be interesting to see what they look like on your zed!

I have also seen the Foliatec blue and really like it, I could probably tint some paint but it would be no good for calipers as its water based

It’s genius really isn’t it?

Someone at BMW a) decided high end callipers should have an identity b) to paint callipers c) to pick a particular shade of blue d) to not release the details of the paint code and instead tell you if you want M blue brakes to spend £40k on a new car instead!

The desirability of this colour is enormous and the discussion it generates on the internet as to what colour it really is is incredible!

And I’m absokutely in the queue for my 3.0. So will await Sean’s conclusion with interest :)

surely this is simple task.

Take a car with them to a paint shop.

get the colour charts out

find closest match?

Not that simple, standard car paint will not take the heat generated in the brakes, needs to be caliper paint.

I got thinking about this today as we have a v8 manta and the exhaust manifolds are only about 10mm away from the chassis that is painted in 2k, there is no sign of heat distress at all on the chassis so maybe 2k would be ok on calipers, (maybe not for track use), I started looking through some of our colour chips and found one or two among the motor bike colours that could be close, however I need a caliper to confirm just how close the colour is.

As per my earlier suggestion. You really could do this in a supermarket car park with the right wheels with big gaps. Just don't get caught...

My 3GT has them but not much good to you in Swindon.
