I’ve seen this problem and people replacing the whole mechanism.
A simple fix is to push the rod (which has the hook on the end) back into place with a small knock.
Then pick up the handbrake and with a plier slightly clamp both sides of the handle on the oblong area shown so it can’t come out again.
