Hi, I am just looking to buy a Z3 3.0 but need to fit wheelchair in boot, have noticed that some Z3 s have a box hanging from left hand side which will restrict height. Can anyone tell me what this is and if can remove ie if CD player, it has a trim around it and I have noticed that some Z3 do not have this but do have electric roofs so don't think it is the roof motor. Have noticed some have CD player underneath this trimmed box. Any help would be very much appreciated.

It will be the multi change CD unit. You can remove and replace with a dash mounted unit if required. Boot trim without the box come up from time to time. Check with @spursfan to see if he has one.

It is either a CD changer, there will be an opening on it somewhere to put the CDs in, or an amp. Meaning that it probably has the HK stereo system in it, which is saleable.

The pump for an auto hood is tucked in the left hand corner by the rear light cluster, under the aerial.

Yes you can remove the carpet, then the stereo equipment and re-fit the carpet, it will have the hump still, some people just cut the hump out and live with it, other get spare parts of the carpet from somewhere and make a patch. Or you can get a new (or second hand) piece of carpet from a Z3 which never had the hump.

These do come up from time to time, cost £40-50 but I don't have one at the moment.

Enjoy the new car when you get one

Thanks to all for replying to my post, really nice you took the time to help me out, any chance someone can measure the boot space, height, width and length as I need to get wheelchair in unfortunately, need to know max height with box removed as well as width and length. Also any common faults with Z3 3.0 I need to know about.

Welcome

I would be surprised if a wheel chair would fit in the boot if it did you would not be able to shut it

you could put it on a boot rack

Best option, have you got the wheel chair? Where are you located? If you're anywhere near a member ( who has a hump less boot carpet) I'll bet they would allow you to try it for size.
I certainly will if you are anywhere near Lincoln.:)

Tony.

We have a member from Bradwell, @Shelly, but theirs is a Z4, but they might know someone local who has a Z3. Failing that there will be someone I'm sure.:)

Welcome from Ireland! I hope I am proved wrong but the wheelchair may not fit in the boot nor on a boot rack without interfering with the rear window, although, I have seen a few very compact looking wheelchairs when folded down.
