I'm seriously considering fitting some stainless braided brake hoses on my car. Any helpful info graciously received, ie what type (brands etc.)

Me too Tony, it's hard to know what's best, is it Goodrich?
I honestly don't know Rich, I tried looking while over there but I'm no wiser. I know BF Goodrich make good tyres but that apart, well, I'm still looking.
I'm going to check the local retailers tomorrow and see what they come up with. Will let you know.

have used them on other cars and used Hel and Goodrich without any problems, will probably get a set for the Z as well at some stage, think Hel might be a bit cheaper but just as good
I used BF Goodrich on my car, fitting was OK but needed some washers on the front hoses to stop the hoses popping though mounting brackets.

Hi Brian, where do the rear one fit, am I correctnin thinking IT is a hard line to the caliper and flexi between body and swing arm?
There two on each side at the rear Rich. One at the suspension arm pivot point and one at the calliper. A kit consists of 6 hoses. By the way I tried Andrew Page and Euro Car Parts in Lincoln yesterday and neither stock any braided hoses, however ECP did say they could probably get them. When they previously quoted me on none stock parts they were very uncompetitive in price.

Thanks Tony, just found that out, as is am looking at changing hard lines also, the Z3 is now on axle stands waiting for me to start and rip the rear axle down, so I will need to buy some pipe, flanges and a flaring tool, so I can make some end caps to stop the brake fluid draining.
The HEL kit I have found is 6 lines and £119, i will go for this on the rebuild

No worries mate, are you going to replace the pipework with copper (much easier to work with ie bend) or the stiffer Kuniffer type. My personal choice would be the Kuniffer but you will need some special pipe bending pliers to shape the pipes

I don't know yet Tony, but happy to take advice, so it wil look like copper, if that's what you think is best?
Sorry for the late reply, been on the road all day. Yes you are right, the little hoses fit between the body and the swing arm, I was worried about corrosion around the old hoses but I was able to remove them really easily.

My Z has passed its 1st MOT under my ownership this morning and a little relieved!
A couple of advisory items as expected
, one of these was a slight deterioration on the front brake hose and have booked her in to have the hoses replaced in a couple of weeks, the mechanic and I were discussing the braided option as I intend to keep the car and shall replace all of them.
Looking at this thread is there any update from any one on which ones to go for ?? it seems there were only 2 x choices - Hel and Goodrich.
The garage were happy for me to supply them and mentioned Goodrich?
One of the Advisory items - Misting Shock Absorber I knew about and was expecting this so will replace the shocks all round later in the year.
Other items were the both Nearside wheels - slightly distorted bead rim (flat spot) when spun.
I have noticed a slight wheel wobble a couple of days ago as I brought her out of hibernation so when the hoses are being done I have asked to have all wheels balanced and alignment checked / set up.
Without having to replace wheels would it therefore be best to put the front nearside on the offside rear so both potential problem wheels are on the rear??? - thoughts anyone??

Many tires these days are directional imperative! Check them out before you change them as you plan as you may end up with a snaking track with you wrestling the wheel trying to stay straight! JIM
Replaced my hoses with Goodrich a few weeks ago. Same as @BrianH we had to fit washers at the mounting brackets. Bought mine from AS Performance in Birtley, Tyne and Wear, Contact is Alan and phone number is 0191 410 3770. Goodrich do 2 types one has zinc plated end fittings, the other has stainless and cost a few pounds more. Look on the Goodrich web site for colour options. ASP slightly cheaper than direct purchase from Goodrich. Also replaced bleed nipples with HEL stainless steel from e-bay. On my 1999 2.8 (pre face lift) the rear nipples were 7mm x 1.0 pitch and fronts were 8mm x 1.25 pitch, calipers are ATE all round although fronts were replaced last year. Brakes now feel very solid and reassuring.
I thought the extra cost was well worth it. Just checked on the Goodrich site and SS is £7,20 more than zinc http://goodridge.brakes-hoses-fittings.co.uk/car-brake-lines/bmw-z3.html.The extra for the stainless fitting is well worth it, mine must be zinc
Just to add I have Goodridge SS versions fitted just before I bought the car back in 2011 with no issues. Brake feel is good, too long ago for me to compare with a standard Z but brakes feel great ( I also have EBC yellow stuff pads and Brembo discs (not slotted or grooved)).
Steel braided brake lines are always going to be better than standard rubber lines, purely because they don't "bulge" under pressure and all your foot pressure goes directly to your callipers.
