What is the best way of repainting the brake calipers? Attached to the car or removed? Spray or paint brush? Which paint?

It really depends how good a job you want to do Mike ;)
If you don't want to go to the extent of getting them blasted and powder coated,
the best results will be obtained by taking them off the car and giving them a good clean before spraying them.
If you want a quicker job just remove the wheels and brush paint them. Spraying in situ will need a lot of masking!
As for the type of paint Smoothrite, Hammerite or high temp engine paint are all suitable.

Thanks, they are not heavily rusted. I thought I might be able to remove the Calipers and hange them, still attached to the brake line and then spray them. I don't want to go to the trouble of having to bleed the system. Thought I might spray them Red to match a blue car.

Red always looks good:

But for a blue car, I prefer yellow:

On this subject, what colour usually goes with a red car?

I'd go with black for red, yellow or silver with a blue car

Thats a point, BMW brake calipers never look very attractive. Well not like the Ferrari ones, they look sort of business like???

I need to do mine again, going to remove them this time, without disconnecting the pipes hopefully.

Perhaps I should have tried wet sanding the scratch off first, in other words, stick to something I understand!
