You checked the obvious first before you shell out on a fix, fuses, pump conceptions and fluid. Not sure but I think the E85 roof motor is prone to water ingress, could be the cause (if yours is the E85).
The two knob thingies that Moz is on about in your boot are one left side and one right side, they twist to allow more luggage space but when in wrong position will stop your roof operating?
When you hear the catches on the top of the windscreen release, does the roof move at all? You could try having someone "help" the motor by trying to lift the front of the roof as you operate the switch. No noise from the motor itself does, sadly, point to a duff motor. Hope not.
Does your car live outside, if so do you know when the roof drains were last cleared? If they haven't been done before it's worth having a search on here/google for the location of the drains underneath/forward of the rear wheels and poke a wire up there. This may release leaves and debris along with a load of water. If it turns out to be the pump I have read of a guy on the Z4 Forum who will relocate your motor to the boot in less than an hour for a very reasonable sum. http://www.z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=89154
It is quite a common fault on the Z4 E85 for the roof motor to fail due to water Egress
The guy we used was up in Durham. He will do it on a weekend. It has been known for the roof moter to come back to life if given a thorough clean and soaked in Diesel or something like that (can not remember which) and let to dry.
Hi Timmi .
Have a look on ..z4forum.
Theres a thread running..Titled. roof motor replacement. £550.
Dont be scared off by that price coz some motors can be revived so the cost would be condiderably less.
The guy is Bowser123. He's down south somewhere so may be able to help.
