Hi Guys,

Location: Ashford, Kent

I have a 1998 Z3 I want to get back on the road.
Main issue is the seat.

I had an extension done on the house and took it out of the garage to store materials for the build. In that time the roof had a leak and she got wet inside.

I’ve since had the roof replaced, not the best fit but it’s water tight. Whilst the roof was off I took out the seats and carpets to wash and make sure it was dry.

Now it’s all put back together the seat is stuck in the forward position, so I can get in to drive it.

I have taken the seat out to see if I can figure it out but no luck. So she’s just sat in the garage and has been for a few years now.

Looking for some help as constantly being nagged to scrap her. I can’t face doing that to her she’s got years left in her!

Merry Christmas

Mark

The seat must have moved when you re-installed it, to get to all the runner fixings, no?
What has happened since? Are they electric?

Yes they are electric, it will go up and down but not back. Was working perfectly fine before removing them.

Have you tried gently tapping the motor with a small hammer whilst operating the switch?

Tony.

If tapping it with a hammer didn't wake it up next move will be to check with a voltmeter or test bulb to see if its getting power when the switch is activated. No power then suspect the motor has failed or the switch has packed up, voltmeter test should prove which one is at fault.

No. 2 separate motors. Did you tap the right one?

Tony.

Seeing as I have my seat bases separated, here are a couple of pics showing the motors which may help. The one at the front, nearest the camera, is the forward/back motor.
