Old style underseal?

Well. Way, way back, my brother got a tin of underseal and painted under his wheelarches and sills. But he got carried away and painted it on the bottom 6 inches of his doors - back then people did that to cover the rust on the bottom of their doors and wings.

Anyway. Never thought about it at the time but, thinking back, I don't remember anyone ever getting the black stuff on their flairs (bell bottoms?). The black stuff dried quite good and was, basically, OK to touch.

But last year I sprayed some Hammerite Underbody seal onto my freshly welded sill end plates I'd done at the time and now, over a year later, the stuff still covers my arms whenver I'm working anywhere near it. It just never dries. I know that might be a good thing in a cavity but surely if you paint your wheel arches you should be able to change a wheel, a year later, without needing a full body protective suit.

Does the old stuff still exist? I know it never went rock hard but it didn't stick to everything that so much as looks at it.

What do you guys use?

I think you might mean shulz , masking up to the sill and spraying away with your air line and shulz gun .
I don't have an air line. Is the stuff you're talking about 'only' for spraying with an airline?

I just found tetrasyl do shutz in an airline cartridge.

Schutz just means 'Protect' in german. as In Unterbodenshutz = underbody protection. So Tetrasyl under seal in a can for brushing is the same stuff as in the spray cartridge?

There is a type of Schultz, that you can paint over I'm sure but just check first, think they do them in aerosol.

They do Schultz and "stone chip" in aerosol which are over paintable.

I do have a can of StoneChip. Just in two minds whether to paint in my wheel arches with underseal or stonechip.

Over a year ago I sprayed some Hammerite. Can says "with added Waxoyl" and all this time later it still sticks to your hands and clothes. I guess it never dries. So was just curious about what happened to the good old underbody seal from years ago that dried to the touch.

It dries to the touch but not totally right through. So it can remains lightly flexible and resist cracking and letting water in. Same as stone chip.

Agree with Tony, Dinitrol is same a waxoil never really dry's . My mechanic used to go nuts at me when he was
working on other classics I have had in the past . There used to be a product called ZINK182 that you can paint over .

Would that be the good old underbody seal that let water behind and rotted cars from behind it, unseen? Why would you?

You're right. You're talking about the stuff that dried out and went brittle and parted from the bodywork in sheets letting moisture sit behind. I obviously don't want that.

Then there's the opposite end of the scale where it never drys. By that I mean even 18 months later you can't touch it. It sticks to your fingers, clothes and hair. I don't want that either. Can't work on the car without coming out looking like a miner.

That's what I've got.

I want a quality one that never fully dries. Remains flexible. But can be touched without getting covered in the stuff 18 months.

What about this? NB: I have not used this.
