Hi

I am attempting to change the spotlight light bulb but access is prevented because of the air filter box is directly behind the bulb holder.

I have (1) removed the screw at the back of the filter box, (2) eased off the side mounting screw so that it can slide out of the mounting bracket, (3) undone the hose mounting clips......but the filter box still feels like it is being held by another fixing point. Is there any thing else to undo? See pics

Do I need to remove the filter box or do I release the headlamp it self?

Urgent help would be appreciated

If it's the same as mine, once you have removed the bolts and intake pipe clip the airbox is just sitting on a large rubber grommet. These do get very dry and don't half hang on.

Hi Tony

Do you pull the filter box 'upwards' to free the filter box from the rubber grommet?

Cheers

Hi,just been out to look as it's been a while since I removed mine. This is on a 2000 2.0 and I'm assuming yours is like this? Excuse the dust, it lives in the corner of my garage at the moment. The big grommet is on the bottom of the airbox where I'm pointing and they do lift straight upwards. HTH.:)

Just worked it out........one sharp yank upwards and the filter box is free :)

Next problem though is the radiator pipe that runs across the top of the filter box..........cannot be moved sideways to allow the filter box to be removed :(

Do I have to drain any thing prior to undoing the pipe?..............Do I remove the pipe at the radiator or filler point?...... .I have never tried to undo these types of clips before.......is there a method to undo them or are they 'one time' use only?

All this to change a light bulb

Hi Tony

Mine is slightly different. It does not have the two large rubber mounting points (as shown in most of the manuals), only one rubber mounting point.

Really appreciate your help

There was just enough give in mine to allow it to lift over the airbox, but please be careful those plastic outlets do get brittle. You can loosen those type of clips by putting a small screwdriver in between the point where it has been crimped and moving it side to side will "open" the clip, again be careful.

Hi Tony

Many thanks.....but do I have to drain any thing?

I was going to replace which ever clip I remove with a standard jubilee clip.......so am prepared for the worse

If you release any pressure in the header tank then refit the cap. Remove the pipe at the header tank end and push a bolt or similar into the pipe will stop any leakage. Some paper towel would be a good idea just in case. But there shouldn't be much water loss.

Just in case anyone else has a similar filter box to mine; there is a third screw point on base of the filter which can only be reached once the filter is raised 50mm + from its original mounting position.............half hour to locate it :D

I undo mine from the middle of the 2 bendy inlet pipes as its easier because of where the first pipe connects to the second small airbox with 2 small bolts, also you don't have to undo the water pipe just unclip it from the clips on the airbox and the water tank and it takes seconds to remove the airbox after you have done it a few times then when you replace the inlet pipes connect them before you fit the airbox back down :)

nearly everything I have done on the car so far has needed the airbox being removed.... I bet when I remove the aerial to change the bush the other end will be connected under the damn airbox ;)

LOL . As you said; once you know how its a lot quicker. Took me an hour the first time, but all sorted now.

Thanks to you and Tony

Undo the four adjustment screws. Lift out the headlight. Replace the bulb. Replace the headlight. Replace the four adjustment screws.
Do not let the plastic adjusters move. Hold them with an open ended spanner.

I'm back again with same night mare :(:(

The Zed has just failed the MOT due to the N/S head light bulb not being the same colour as drivers side. Both replaced last year at the same time (cheap Ebay LED crap, BEWARE).

Rather than go through the nightmare above of removing the air box etc, please could some one clearly identify were all 4 x adjustments screws are to remove the N/S headlamp..............assuming that this is the easiest method to change a bulb

Any help would be appreciated

Hi @TWO
2 at the top you can see easily.

The other 2 are visible looking down some holes in the slam panel. The main brace across the front of the car. Best to access with 1/4" drive sockets and long extensions.
Easy to get out but pain to get the bolts back in so blob of grease in the end of the socket will hold the bolt in the socket.
You need a torch to see the lower bolts.

Just a thought the small pipe to the expansion tank can be removed at the tank end . There is a thin wire clip if you pull that part way up the pipe can be carefully pulled of the expansion tank and lifted out the way. Don't let it hang down or coolant will run out.

Cheers Brian...........thanks for a clear response :)

I have previously removed the filter etc and was looking for an easier way.

I will try to remove the headlamp this time

Cheers
