Hello people of the z3 and z4 community sadly my worst suspicion was correct when I was trying to find the leak in the coolant lines I figured it was the one underneath intake manifold so I removed the intake manifold and low and behold a crack in the head of the engine 
I have come to the conclusion that an engine swap is the best course of action as having the head ported polished and welded would be too much of a financial investment so my question is does any one know what cars share the exact same engine as the z3 my one is the 2.2 litre M54 B22 2001 I have googled some cars but I’d love to hear you guys and girls thoughts on this and if there are any more cars I could look for ?
