Creaking steering

A couple of times recently steering has gone a little stiff and creaking, it last about 5 mins
and disappears. In the handbook, power steering only refers to taking into BMW no more.

Any ideas where i should start ?

Z3 1.9i (2002)

Thanks in advance, Team Z ;0)

I would start by checking power steering fluid level.

Is it in one direction say right hand down etc ?
I have this and its the lower bottom ball joint its only there when the weather is hot or the cars been ran and is hot.
I thought it was top mounts but when i get it if i spray the joint with cold water it disappears so the ball joint is running a little dry...this tally's with my Mot as was advised of mild play can not feel anything but it is defo the joints in my case.

Creaking again this morning, doing a 3 point turn in a car park.
Have a 500ml bottle of Slick 50 power steering fluid.
Found reservoir under the air box DOH !

Going to let the local BMW specialist have a look at this, they are only round the corner from
work, which is handy.

Could easily be a"dry" balljoint, are all the ball joint dust covers intact?

Tony.

Which specialist is that, always good to know fairly local BMW garages, I'm guessing it's Folkestone way?

BMS - Dover.

Done me a good job with an ABS pump on my 120i. Good guys.

JAC - West Hythe Also, but a little out the way.
