DA polisher on the rear window

For those of you that have been wondering if that can be done.... I had some pretty deep scratches in the back window, partly my fault and the rest from the previous owner. I got most of them out with about 80% improvement.

• Following the mantra of 'use less aggression as possible' I used a 3 inch orange pad and started out with Plastix. OK but not good enough.
• Then used Menzerna 500, better but not harsh enough.
• Then Menzerna 400 and that did a pretty good job!

Inside of the window rubs the carpet and leave a wear mark in the middle of the window. Without removing the window to work on it I cannot get it all out and have only made a 50% improvement on that. The roll hoops also make it impossible to get the full window.

Best to get the roll hoops off and seats out - not bad once you've done it a few times (getting them out I mean). I was thinking I needs someone on the other side to hold a firm pillow against the window so I can apply pressure to the polisher but not pull at the window stitches

I thought the mark across the window was caused by the hood seam rubbing on the outside of the plastic. Is it really on the inside?

I did this with the roll hoops out. A lot better but not perfect.

The pillow idea is great.

i was thinking that the carpet they use in the well there is very coarse. Maybe some sheepskin would be better..
It can also rub against the base If the sub/cubby trim area and wind deflector. A bit of sheepskin would sort it I reckon.

Now where to put the gold tissue holder?!

I did mine with max aggression, 8 inch mop and Farecla,G3, removed all but the very deepest scratches.

I would use a piece of 13mm plywood wrapped in a towel to hold against as it would keep the plastic window flatter for polishing. Worked well on my Z3 just using hand power not machine.

I put a massive microfibre towel across the carpet when I had the new roof fitted which seemed to protect the inside. Only trouble was that it was yellow and it gave off a horrible reflection on the screen when looking in the rear view mirror. Was going to get a black one but I've just left it and now its got the usual marks, even the softest of microfibre cloths seem to scratch the rear window.

I will have to wet sand the outside part of the screen at the fold. Investigating the best way for that now. Probably 800 then 1500 then 2000 then 3000 then the da gets her turn!

recent roof on mine well just over 3 years ago and i got some deep scratches in the window have polished with autoglym super resin, and a polishing mop on my electric drill.. with success...
