Has anyone got a dash mounted video camera and do they use it/enjoy reviewing the content? I am considering having one to play with. Any comments happily received. Most use TF cards to store recordings so would need to get one of those too.

Yep I have one but only got it after a couple of incidents and a recommendation from a friend. It is good to review when it is new and the novelty aspect is still fresh but it really is fit and forget and will come into its own if I am unfortunate enough to be involved in and accident or witness something serious nought to warrant saving the footage.

Friend of mine has recently had a driver overtake him on a corner with double white lines and nearly take him off the road so reported it to the police and submitted the video as evidence, suffice to say the other driver is being prosecuted and is up in court shortly.

The one I have has front and rear cameras which is really good to capture what goes on behind you and is really cheap but great quality. I will find a link for it just give me a few minutes.

Ok here is the Ebay number of the one I got;

321226920418

Important thing is this is a UK seller as there are many that are cheaper and say things like based in London but actually they are posted out from China or similar Far East country. This one also comes fully retailed packed whereas a lot of others I noticed said removed from original packaging to save postage which makes me suspicious for some reason. A few people I know have bought these from the same seller and have had no problems.

Forgot to mention I have this fitted in my daily drive and not the zed and not sure where you would fit the rear camera but the main unit is great on its own so the rear camera is a bonus if you can find somewhere to fit it on a zed.

I have a roadhawk HD camera mounted behind my rear view mirror. A few specs below :-

RoadHawk HD uses a high end 1080p video processor and very high quality CMOS sensor not found in other leading brands of forward facing cameras.
This chipset is capable of 720p / 60 frames per second or 1080p 30 frames per second.
Video files are standard MP4 and can be played full screen on any modern computer.

Software is supplied with the camera, this software allows you to play back any images stored and it also shows the location of the recorded images via a small window in the program which uses google maps, vehicle speed and an active G meter.

The camera settings are stored on the SD card and can be changed via the computer software however you can pre-program two or three cards if you wish with different camera setups I.e. 1 card set at 1080p, 1 card set at 720p and one card set up for event recording. A 32gb SD card will record a good constant 8 hours of footage at 720p.

Price wise it is nothing like the unit above but I have no complaints as it is a great unit with great build quality.

If you like Tony I will get some pics of these unit in place.

I'm on my pad at the moment so not easy to find some footage for you but I will post a link to some so you can see the quality

I have been thinking of getting that one myself for the zed as it is really small and in obtrusive plus as you say does get raving reviews. Where did you get yours from as the prices seem to vary widely for these?

.
And that is the problem with them, how would you feel if it was you in court for a moment of indiscretion, we all have them, and it should be upto the police to find it and report, that's what they are paid for, I am afraid it is a no no for me, too much big brother and nanny state in this country, it has been ruined, first chance I get, I will be leaving to more liberal climates. Sorry if I offend but it is an opinion only, don't start on me, unless it is about grammar ;)

That is nice and compact. Would annoy me if you could see wires, so did you hide them in the rear view mirror, or pick up another power feed from there?

The wires are concealed in the rear view mirror bracket, I made a small notch in the plastic cover on the back of the bracket to bring the cables out. I picked up the power from the interior light circuit (permanent live) but also needed to run the GPS cable. The small mic you see there is an add on to try and help with the audio, I should have run a separate audio cable whilst I was at it but you live and learn.

Thank you Brian, I think I'm going to go with the one James has , after watching the video. The GPS works from the mounting block so you only need to run the power supply wire around the screen or as you have, pick up off the interior light (a good idea). The GPS works directly through the mounting connections. It's very compact and very easy to remove for downloading content.
I've also found a supplier in Ilford.( by way of China going by delivery times) lol:)

Hi Kev, check the link in board's reply in this thread above. That's the one I think I will get. I'm currently waiting a reply from the seller as to how much manufacturer's warranty they carry before I commit.
