Good evening

This my first post having recently bought my first Z3, it’s a 1999 2.0 roadster which I am very happy with, although have a long list of jobs to do including thermostat and water pump. Apologies for the long winded question.

I removed my fuel injectors and have posted them off for a clean and refurbish (115,000 miles on them) but while I was doing it I noticed that a hose (I think vacuum) from the fuel pressure regulator is not connected to anything. After multiple searches online I found this picture online and have marked the hose in red. I will try and get some photos of mine after work tomorrow.

as on the picture mine also disappears down into the abyss but was loose and and not connected to anything down there.
I have narrowed down where I think it needs to be from lots of various forum searches and real OEM to a nipple on the CCV, but I haven’t a clue how to go about connecting it back on from here and why it was disconnected in the first place.

Prior to this have driven the car for about 200miles and not noticed anything unusual but obviously as the car was new to me and my first Z3 I have nothing to compare it to.

Would the car be safe to drive to a specialist if I can’t manage to reconnect it myself? One forum search suggested that it was not actually a vacuum but instead a vent for fuel vapours- if this is the case I’m guessing this may lead to a fire if driven?

Thanks for reading and any help greatly appreciated.
Mike

You are correct.
- the line connects to a nipple in the center of the CCV regulator. The nipple is capped for the M54 engines but used on the M52TUB engines like yours. See photo.
- The line carries fuel vapors from the fuel pressure regulator to the CCV to be consumed in the engine. If you can't sort the problem yourself. It should be safe to take the car to someone to fix it. Its been driven a long time without the hose connected, so a few more miles will not hurt.

Thank you for the quick reply and the photo, I will try and connect it myself, fingers crossed I won’t have to remove too much to get access to it!

Thanks Robert I will have a look at some of those videos and that looks like an alternative if I can’t manage to get it reconnected. Do you think that hose can be extended and run to the intake without removing the CCV, it’s plastic hosing and installing a catch can? Is the vent line from FPR vital to the function of the CCV? Or is it routed via CCV just as a way to get vapours back into the intake?

I think the main issue is going to be getting the hose from the FPR on the end of the fuel rail down to the CCV (or vice versa) here (striped wire) whilst taking apart as little as possible from the intake side. I know old plastic can be incredibly brittle when taken apart and I don’t think it can be done from above with needle nose pliers etc
