In your gearbox?

I’ve got all the service records for my Z3M

Nothing showing with regard to gearbox oil. I know gearbox oil doesn’t get changed much or even at all sometimes?

So the car has done 78k miles, would you have the gearbox oil changed? Probably never been done since new!

If the consensus is change it, which oil would you experts out there recommend?

Thanks for all advice,

Barry

Hi Barry. Without a doubt change it, the "M" owners will be along to advise the correct oil.

Same here, first job I do with a new car is change the tyres (I don't know their history) and then have all of the fluids changed including the gearbox and back axle.

The gearbox fill is supposedly ‘for life’. The reality is BMW maybe weren’t thinking beyond 100k/10 years when they said that.

Agree, change the lot, when you do make sure you have some replacement alloy sealing washers for the Diff filler and drain plugs. These corrode away over time you should have seen the state of a 2.2 I did some months ago that had never had diff or gearbox oils changed. Top tip is to remove the filler plugs before draining to make sure you can get them out. I run some plastic tube through the engine bay down to the gearbox filler hole the hold the bottle up and let gravity do the work for filling.
