OK, so I've just managed to get the zed out for the first time in ages. Didn't notice to start with but once we'd stopped and opened the roof there was an awful smell which stayed with us for the next few miles.
It smelt like the usual clutch/brake smell.
I stopped and had a check around and It appeared to be coming from the drivers side rear wheel. Pulled away and did another 20 miles and the smell never returned. Am I right in thinking sticking caliper? Answers on a post card please!

Sounds like a sticking caliper/hand brake do you store it handbrake on or just in gear ?

Don't be alarmed to early mate. When stood for a period a very small ring if corrosion can form on the caliper piston, you may have solved the problem with a drive and plenty of brake action. One to keep an eye on though.

Thanks Andy, hopefully you'll be right and it'll be OK now. It's not moved since we last went to Tonys which I think was Octone. My intention is to do discs, pads and suspension later in the year. Maybe the calipers should be done at the same time.

If they're getting on a bit and you can stand the costs for the calipers mate I would. Makes sense whilst you're in there.

Looking at them I'd say there bloody ancient! I'll price up new and referbed ones nearer the time. Don't imagine they'll be cheap but it would make logical sense.

£330 for all four for Pagid on Eurocarparts mate. Cheaper if you utilise a firm that takes your in Partex though.

Gulp! OK I best get saving! Be nice to have everything done ready for the Dutch cruise but can't see the happening.

Don't buy the callipers new, our Z3's share part numbers with a lot of other BMW's, and you will be able to pick up non corroded items used from the USA delivered for less than it costs to buy one in the UK, I have done it for both the front and rear of mine (Rears are dearer) and have saved a fortune.
