A car fanatic gave his pet dog away after he was left distraught when she chewed a hole through the wheel arch of his prized £80,000 Aston Martin.

Builder Royston Grimstead, 42, was devastated when he came home to find his border collie spaniel cross Luce had chewed through the fibreglass panel of his luxury car - causing £3,000 of damage.

Mr Grimstead, from Chedzoy, Somerset, said he had already been considering re-homing the dog, which he said did not get along with his other dog, but the damage to the car was the final straw.

I must admit I feel more sorry for the dog having an ass of an owner like that. "I didn't tell the new owners what she had done - I expect when they hear I'll find Luce back on my doorstep." Hopefully she has gone to owners who can look after her properly, because he clearly knows nothing about dogs!

Loved the bit in the article where they got the dog expert to comment on the damage to the car. Clearly out of her depth not talking about dogs, but about Aston Martin bodywork repairs she comments "'It's quite an extensive amount of damage. It's very severe the damage that has been done there, I think however it looks a lot worse because it is the wheel arch of a car."

The dog must have been left in that yard for hours to do that. Obviously bored rigid.

I'm also disappointed in the car.. I never knew the wings were fibre glass. I thought they'd be metal or carbon fibre.. Anything else but glass fibre. Whatever happened to the ethos of quality that was once Aston?

My uncle has the V8 vantage, my mechanic who serviced it recently told me most of the parts are ford stamped. He said its basically a ford mondeo with a v8 engine..

It'll be interesting to see if Ford recall the Mondeo!

;)

Aston Martin is recalling more than 17,000 cars because of a potentially defective part.

The Warwickshire-based luxury car maker said the recall accounted for most of its sports cars built since late 2007.

It follows the discovery that a Chinese sub-supplier was allegedly using counterfeit plastic material in part of the accelerator pedal.

There are fears the pedal arm may break although there have been no reports of any accidents, the firm said.

A spokesman said it would now bring manufacture of the pedal arm back to the UK.

'Get it replaced'
The firm is recalling a total of 17,590 cars - 1,553 in the UK - including all of its left-hand-drive models built since November 2007 and all right-hand-drive models built since May 2012, affecting about 75% of all cars built in those periods.

The recall applies to all cars apart from the new Vanquish coupe and Volante models.

"Customer safety is very important and to change the pedal takes less than an hour, so take the car and get it replaced is what we're saying," the spokesman said.

"It's very important to say that there have not been any incidents or accidents."

I have two Border Collies, you do not let them get bored! They are very intelligent dogs, and need stimulation, and if left to their own devices, will entertain themselves.

The phrase "give the dog a bone" springs to mind.
