So you all know I sold my M. But like with all old cars they have their faults. I've been brutally honest with the sale of my zed and made the new owner aware of all the faults.

So this particular fault could be costly for someone without the right knowledge. At the time of sale I noticed one of the driveshaft's is showing signs of wear. This is a very slight vibration when you lift of the throttle under hard acceleration but very rarely and has not done it for a while now but I know its there.

The Offside shaft has more play than the nearside so I know this is the culprit.

My question:

Are there any compatible zeds with the same drive shaft length? Example the 2.8

Does anyone know of a refurbish company or a repair that can be done at home?

For a laugh I rang BMW for a quote and for a pair its £800....ouch

So as a part of the handover when the new owner comes to collect the zed I was going to give him a little list of advice and useful contacts.

Are we looking at item 1 here Lee?

If so then usage across BMW models seems limited to the Z3 M

Cheers @GazHyde Exactly that part. I thought as much because of the swing arms being different on the M's. Oh well the new owner has there options:

1) Find someone braking an M
2) Refub
3) New from BMW

I know this is little of topic, but has anyone any idea why part 2 in the drawing is there? What is it usefull for?
I've seen it on the shaft used by my cobra (so the E36 also has that), but have always wondered why it is there.

Thanks,
Koen

I would of thought it was to stop the bolts unwinding and act as the washer?

But there is only 1 for 2 bolts in the whole shaft, not 1 per every 2 bolts.....I think remembering

....or the other ones are missing in my axle, that could be possible too

Could it be for bracing ? The bolts being the only thing hold face to face joining two to gether would enable them to brace each other in a twist motion helping to stop them from snapping at the ends?

According to realoem it says there should be 6 of the item 2 reinforcement plates hence that would be 3 per side to cover the 6 bolts on each side. I think from memory dont you tap over a corner so it is flush with the face of one of the flats on the bolts after they have been torqued up so acting as lock washers. Either that or just that having two bolts washered like that prevents them from possibility of spining loose.

If you only have one or two on yours Koen looks like you are missing some.
