In theory do all e36 parts for our z? I wanted to put in some m3 parts like throttle body etc and was wondering if it would fit in the BMW z3? I have the m44 engine so not sure?

Hi Paul,

It might be worth asking one of the M44 Massive :). zedonist seems to know a lot about the bits you can plug on a 1.9. I've tagged him, so hopefully he will see this post in a bit!

Cheers, Gary

Hi Paul, although the Z3 was designed to utilise bits from the E36, the designers still liked to influence the design with bespoke kit, so what i would say is to use RealOEM and find the E36 part number you are after and then search in RealOEM for compatible cars, it will give you a list of all vehicles that part was fitted too.

The M3 was a six cylinder S50 engine, throttle bodies will not be a direct swap as the this engine has three throttle bodies, each to two cylinders, It may be possible to make an adapter plate to utilise one of these throttle bodies but i guess the distance between intake on both engines would be different so will need some design work. It is possible though, as it was a mod on the M42 engines with E30 M3 throttle bodies, you would also need extensive work to the ECU with a custom remap. An alternative would be to have the existing throttle body bored oversize, which may give you 10% plus more airflow without the need to remap.

I found a uk company that had them listed on their web site for £80, i am waiting for a response on availability, but they do say 10% more airflow, obviously you can get more benefit from this with an induction kit, exhaust and remap, i reckon you would be looking at 20bhp max at a cost £600, a better ratio differential is about £300 and will give you performance gains without modding the engine. Both together would give you a nice performing 1.9

So in US dollars total about 1200? That would put our 1.9 at about 160-170 depending on existing mods. That would be pretty nice thanks! What ratio differential should I get to get off the line faster and would be good for our cars for max performance? And how do you get a remap for our cars in the states? Everything here is a lot harder to get here than over there
