Afternoon,

I have a 2005 E85 2.2 which is losing coolant at a very slow but steady rate. Having looked underneath, it appears to be the connection between the expansion tank, and the mounting plate. Has anyone any experience of this? Is the fix a new expansion tank, mounting plate or both?

Many thanks,

The usual source of leaks are splits or pin holes developing in the sides of the plastic tank, can be misleading as the leak will find its way down to the bottom connection making it look like its leaking at the bottom. Plastic degrades over time so replacement tank is the way to go.

Inspect it properly unlike me , I just replaced another tank as the previous original had cracked so assumed wrongly that it would be the culprit again.
Turned out to be the thermostat housing which was replaced to find the left hose was also leaking!
The plastic fitting are obviously getting old so any work on the cooling system seems to open a can of worms.

Yep, first replaced thermostat, pump, tensioner , etc on my E85 2.2 as a precaution because of age having had failures on my Z3 which had only done 30k.Plastic and rubber which is constantly heated and cooled doesn't last forever. Not long after I was losing coolant and it was the header tank, replaced and ok since.
