Can anyone tell me how to remove the Roll Hoop plastic outer covers on my Z4 please?

I assumed as much Pete, thank you. Might be a job best left for warmer days then the plastic may be less brittle and likely to snap. There's also a piece that goes around the base of the two halves, this is the reason I ask, because when I got the car there was a piece of plastic in the driver's door pocket and I had no idea where it was from till now.

It's been laid in that door pocket, bugging me every time I see it Ant. Of course it could go back on with a dab of super glue.

Would heating the plastic up before you prise them apart hel reduce chances of the clips snapping?

I removed mine when I fitted the wind deflector. I eased them apart very carefully with a coule of flat blade screwdrivers until I could get my fingers in and only broke one clip. Still went back together ok - you wouldn't have known:whistle:.

Would something like a wallpaper scraper do the job?
Nice and thin and plenty of edge to prise a decent amount apart rather than pressing on a small area.

I have a set of plastic trim tools which I bought a while ago, only problem is that they're out on loan to another Z4 owner who has a similar issue.;)

Did you do that to locate the fixing screw holes for the side brackets Dave?

Not quite Tony, it was to fit the deflector into the hoop itself. The centre fixing brackets I did by eye.

Possibly Ian but it may be too long to be able to get enough purchase on the covers. BMW in their wisdom have gone for one time fixings. In fact if you buy the wind deflector from BMW it is very expensive as it comes with new roll hoop covers because they are expected to break.

Mine just has a bracket on each roll hoop which the deflector slides down into and clicks in position, yours not like that?

Yes it was Tony, I just eyeballed where the brackets had to go. I had to split the plastic cover to fit the deflector inside the hoop.

You have to separate the covers to fit Part 1.
