E85 3.0se auto
Hi everyone, I recently made the mistake of selling my 3.0se E85 & bought an Mx5 manual (BIG MISTAKE!), so after keeping it for 3 weeks, I’ve got rid and now looking for another auto but newer model. Definitely e89 and got to be auto. Would love 30i but limited budget so might have to be 23i but putting feelers out. A few kicking around that I’m hoping to view, but looking for lowish miles, FSH, excellent condition bodywork, and probably blue or grey but would consider other colours. Idrive would be a bonus but cruise control essential. Max budget is 8k and happy to wait for the right car - I’m in Chesterfield Derbyshire, willing to travel within reason, but radius of around 100 miles preferred.
Anything out there?? Got loads of helpful advice and info from these forums so though would be best place to start looking for an honest motor that I intend to keep and cherish!

Hi, unless you're dead set on a 6 pot I would seriously look at the 28i, yes its a 2.0 4 pot but its only slightly less bhp than the 30i and more torque and a lot quicker 0-60. Plus its highly tuneable if required where the 30i & 23i are not.. It is the best all rounder e89 IMO.
It will also tan the arse off the 23i 2.5 6 pot. That's what I have and yes I like it but it ain't swift unless you rev the engine hard. The 30i will hold a premium price for little gains in performance and there are a lot fewer 30i's you choose from.

Just a thought for consideration

Well I'd buy from a dealership if I'm honest. You'll get 12 mths manufacturers warranty for the extra outlay. It's worth it.

Must admit I quite enjoy the high revving nature of the 23i - reminds me of the M44 I used to have. Always seems happy to be worked hard and the right amount of power for the UK road network.

Yep I like it too but it's not necessarily the best all rounder. For me it was wanting a non turbo 6 pot that was economical and had enough go when required. Job done

Thanks for your reply and input, any advice is appreciatedI’ve definitely considered the 28i but not so many around my budget, I think I’m sold on the 6 cylinder smoothness and long term reliability (turbo’s pricey if anything goes wrong!) If I could stretch my budget a few K, I’d be looking at 35i, but it’s a weekend car and I can’t justify it, especially after I sold my e85 cheaper than I should had. Condition is more important to me than speed & power (must be getting old!)

Thanks, already been in touch with the owner and will be possibly going to view, just the mileage making me wary on this one👍
