I noticed the near side light cluster might of had water in it as the indicator looks a little off colour in one little area, I think this may be a regular problem so has anyone had this and can advise if it can be treated before it gets to noticeable, the car is always garaged but I do go out in the rain.

Common fault, I have one going the same, it will only get worse I'm sorry to say, but the lights can be separated to clean the inside of the outer glass and can I believe be resealed though I haven't had a look at mine yet. Have read below on the e89 forum. Theres a few different threads on the subject

Took my e89 into the local stealers with nearside rear light failure......in excess of £300 to replace. After a brief discussion with the muppets they agreed to contact BMW regarding replacement. BMW agreed to replace the unit FOC as a goodwill gesture.

Doesn't involve the use of an oven does it? ;)=))

Being LED I guess they are totally sealed so you can't just dry them out like you could with replaceable bulbs. I would treat that as a design flaw if they leak but you can't dry and repair/reseal them. They have simply failed to meet environmental demands placed upon them.

Hi Stag T, I bought the car when it was 1yr old and the problem seems to stem from a design fault in the light cluster. Condensation causes the led tail light to fail but as its not a sealed unit what do BMW expect?. The car is not in warranty as it is now 4yrs old and I was given no explanation as to their reason to replace it under goodwill. All I had to do was photograph the condensation in the light cluster and it was replaced. The actual cost should have been £389
