E89 roof reset procedure?

I had the roof stop part way saying the standard movement impaired. There was actually some items in the trunk where they should not have been.
The trunk and the glass move up and down normally, and are unlocked.

If it turns out there is nothing wrong, or I find a switch/sensor that was bad and repair....

what is the procedure for starting over? I feel like at this point everything is out of sequence etc. and that up or down may not be appropriate.

Does this make sense? How can I be sure to put it back into the position it expects, or will it just try to close on it's own?

When we have had ours stop for a similar reason, once the obstruction was removed we just continued with the lowering and all was ok.

The same with Shirl’s Eos. I stopped it mid way to clean and lubricate all the rubber seals, then just continued.

I've already moved it to check components, so it is not still in the same position.
I know the position it was in roughly, but i would need to get the trunk up to close the valves from the back (electronically locked) or somehow pull the emergency cable. Then i could put it back to where it was when the error happened.
I assumed clearing the error would reset it's "known" position?

Can you post any pictures of it's current state?

I really can't see there being a problem if you carry on with the closing sequence. The boot/trunk lid should continue to close and then the rear window glass move back into place.

Sometimes when the parts are suspended mid routine, gravity will take it's course and the parts can move.

right on, I guess i just have to clear the error now so it will try again? (since the red light continues to flash)

I believe the red light is only flashing because the sequence has stopped part way through. So once the obstruction is removed, the roof should close and the red light clear itself once the roof has closed.

got everything going, and it still wouldnt pack up.
Finally got ISTA running and was able to see the actual error for the switch. Upon further inspection, the switch wire is toast. sheath is brittle and braking away.
I decided to cut my losses and take it in.

Fair warning, the glass top acts like a wing when sitting on the roof, drive slow ;)

I can stop the roof part way through to maintain etc and just continuing the opening or closing via the switches works ok. If yours wont open close then I would suggest an issue. Broken wire, salmon relay micro switch?
