early z4 a supercar?

Iv seen on utube a few times when discussing the z4 as a supercar.We usually think of supercars Ferrari, or Lambo. Although the lotus esprit is generally thought of as a supercar especially in turbo form,yet it had only a 4 cylinder 2.2 engine.The early z4s have the 2.5 or 3.0 6 cylinder engines.I was wondering what you think does the z4 6 cylinder cars equate with the word supercar?They are certainly special,im not sure what do you guys think?

I don't think so, it's first and foremost a roadster(Americano!)or open 2 seat sportscar. A supercar in my book is one designed for ultimate performance and so it wouldn't generally be a convertible.

No, but I don't see the appeal of owning a supercar anyway. I can admire the engineering and design, but I can't see how you could ever really take advantage of its abilities. There's a lot more fun to be had on the regular roads in a Z4.

Jasn you are totally right they are pointless supercars in the uk,or as is more likely they are a blatent flaunting device to show off a persons wealth?The average bog standard cars will reach 70 miles perhour easily and sit at it all day.The 5 litre supercar is only allowed to reach that same 70,any Over and their driving illegally.I like the engineering, and the sometimes their great shapes ,but ultimately they are vulgar,because of the real reasons they where bought, and flaunted!

What actually determines what a super car is, is it the power or the looks or both. I ask only in as much as there are cars that will do 200 mph but are not super car status, like a 3 ton Bentley or Rolls, what I’m saying is surly it can’t be down to power or speed alone.
I also agree that it is people with wealth that like them and can obviously afford them, but I do disagree that it’s to show off there wealth, why do they need to. If one takes that kind of angle it could be called jealousy or soar grapes.
another way to look at this is if it was not for the rich purchasing them us mere poor souls wouldn’t have anything to gloat over or perhaps dream about.

Gremlin its not sour grapes when i describe supercars as a show of wealth .If i where in that league money wise yes i would have my Ferrari,but id be honest that its me showing off, and showing off my wealth ,like a Rolex watch,like my Cartier Santos watch,yes i like flaunting it,but at least im honest about it.To say that the guy with the lambo going down the road isnt showing off,i think most people would disagree with you,but of course thats your opinion, and i respect that.

it is very unfortunate that when ever I seem to write anything on this site I seem to upset some one. I was not wishing to cause offence all I was doing was stating my opinion.
sorry if I touched a raw nerve over the jealousy thing, don’t quite get your thing on honesty or now what you say they are is obviously dishonest in the way they flaunt there wealth.
I think you misunderstood what I put in as much the rich have the money they buy a car that they can afford and drive it around.
because they drive it around dose not mean they are showing off there wealth it’s people that can’t afford such a car that seem to think this.
so what are they supposed to do buy a car like that and say oh dear I’d better not drive around in this as people will think I’m trying to show off.

Thing with “Supercar” owners is the way they drive them. Most drive them in such a way that you hardly notice them, the there’s the other type who have to make themselves known to everyone by the way they drive them. Effectively shouting “Look at me in my flash car!” Ask me how I know.
