Good morning all! My name is Mark and I'm from Edinburghand hope to buy a Z3 2.8 soon, I had planned on travelling today to see one in London but I'm too busy this weekend, if it's still available next weekend I will most likely make the journey.
That's a long trawl to look at a car, are there no good ones nearer you? Although the long drive home will give you plenty of time to bond with your new car!
There is one local but the colour combo in London is my ideal, it's only a 1.5 hr flight and the same back if it's not as pristine as the guy said it is.
Finding the right cars the key. If it's what you want it doesn't matter at all if you travel a long way. A little time spent ends up giving you a lot of pleasure.
The train ride is good as well. The part between Edinburgh and Berwick is a stunning journey along the coast.
Mark 2.8 the right car to go for as fare as I'm concerned, it took me about 3 months to find the right one happy hunting, what colour combo are you after?
I did the opposite. Went from Kent to Edinburgh to buy a Z.
It was well documented car so I knew all about before seeing it. I've travelled for nearly every car I've bought to find the one I want at the price I want.
Flights are easy and cheap, train was expensive if I recall correct. Can always have a day out in London too and drive/fly back next day.
My ideal would be to collect the car in London, then head to Bishops Stortford for some driver training in it with Andy Walsh of 'Car Limits' to get more familiar with the car and then head home the next day or that evening but I'm not sure that will work out as nothing booked and don't know the car is any good or could handle that sort of behaviour hahaha
Saw your post and remembered that there was one in Scotland on Zroadster.net a few weeks ago. If the London car doesn't work out may be worth checking to see if it is suitable and still available. 3.0 rather than 2.8.
Thanks, that does look good! My only issue with it is the colour, silver is a nightmare to colour match if ever it needs a touch up. Possibly a little more than I want to spend at the moment too
Glad it was of some interest Mark. As I say it was a couple of weeks ago so may have been sold.
You comment about silver being a nightmare colour for touch up. I bought my Silver Z3 last year and have had the drivers door replaced and rear wheel arches repainted. Admittedly this was at a body repair shop but the colour match and how the aluminium orientates is near perfect. I have 20+years experience in large scale industrial paint processing and I have a reasonably good eye for this.
If you end up with a silver car I would be happy to give the the name of the guy who painted mine (small scale repair shop) with sensible prices, about 100 miles south of Edinburgh but good public transport connection via Newcastle.
