My roof on my 2007 Z4 Roadster does not work. When I press the button the red light comes on but the windows do not come down, nor do the front catches release and I can't hear any motor working.. Does anyone know what this problem is please?

Thanks
Richard

I dont have an electric roof on mine, but I think you have to release the catches manually, plus have your foot on the brake?
But I’m sure someone more knowledgeable will advise soon.

Richard, there are two motors working the z4 roof, there is one that releases and closes the roof catches and is basically located above your head behind the cover in the centre of the inner windscreen surround. The other motor is used to drive a hydraulic pump which raises and lowers the rood once the windscreen catches are released, this motor sits in a well in the nearside rear wing and is prone to failing due to water corrosion.
Normally when this motor fails the release catches will still work, so with yours not even releasing this could simply be a blown fuse or the release motor has failed. There is a worm drive connected to the motor and the plastic gear can crack and fail. Its an easy fix and there are upgraded spares available......fleabay will be your friend.

Thanks Davz that is very useful information. Will have to find a cheap garage to do it somewhere as not skilled in that area!

I forgot to mention that the micro switch located in the boot, which the parcel shelf is linked too could be faulty. The switch is about a tenner and easy to replace. Just check that the metal prong is engaged with the parcel shelf, it should sit above it.

I think that if the parcel shelf is not engaged properly the normally red light turns orange.
I find this out after a companion threw a case in the back and just pushed it enough to trip the microswitch but not enough to lift teh parcel shelf.
Simply raising then lowering it fixed it.

Thanks very much Chaz, you solved the problem as it was the parcel shelf!
