Engine Idle

Z3, 2002, 2.2, 34000km has experienced a glitch that may be known to other users.
During a short road run the engine light displayed and misfiring occured at low RPM when entering a driveway and trying to apply power to garage the little beastie.
Restarted from cold and experienced same misfiring both at idle and when trying to increase rpm. (no engine light)
Tried again from cold and engine idled correctly. Left running to reach std temperature and misfire remained absent when increasing rpm ????
Any thoughts are welcomed.

Sticky idle control valve maybe?

Inlet camshaft position sensor on my 2.0 gave me these same problems. A code read will hopefully confirm this.
By the way Glen welcome to the forum, where are you located?

Only way to identify the problem for sure is to put it on diagnostics, but does sound like cam sensor

Another drive yesterday confirmed the fault is not going away, but the engine light has not displayed again. As it is quite intermittent, and typically shows itself when powering up from idle revs, the engine diagnostic approach would seem to be the best action to take.

No worries Glen, as I've said it is doing just what mine did when the inlet cam sensor threw a wobbler. Not an expensive job. Very nice looking car too.

We'll at least the cam sensor is plug and play on a M43. Seriously get it on diagnostic. Elm device and EOBD facile the best bet.
