Bit hard to describe but when accelerating in a higher gear, say 20mph in 3rd (Would normally do this with ease) it seems to initially miss a bit. Thought i had cured it with a dose of red X but its back, any ideas folks?

My thoughts would be inlet cam sensor starting to fail. They don't always throw a code, my Z3 2.0 didn't.

my money would be on VANOS. there are rebuild kits available online, and the job itself like 2-3h for semi-skilled amateur mechanic. i had refurbished vanos on my car and it changed it entirely. no more power loss under any load at any revs.

i should have red replies first

My thoughts about the engine surge when under load are an issue, which you need to give careful attention to. You do not want to damage your vehicle!
