From the 30th of June all EV Chargers sold in the UK will be smart chargers
Having a sim card through third party phase 1 of the government plan is to have of peak charging from midnight to 4am
Out with this time will be charged at a different rate
By December charge points must have a alarm on the cover to protect info on the sim card the government won't to have control over your EV its planed to introduce delad charging when the vehicle is plugged in between 4pm and 7pm depending
On the demand the charger can be turned off as an installer it is a nightmare go on YouTube look up EV Charging
Hope I'm doing my bit to I inform you as the sales guy trying to sell you a car wont

Interesting- I've had the Tesla 3 years now but only ever plug it in to charge it the wall socket in the garage. Never really looked at having a dedicated charger fitted and based on that doubt I will. Cheers.

Tesla have unlocked there charges last week to any vehicle as the site fees for the charges are becoming to high

Thanks for the heads up, reinforces my belief, anything with smart in its decription isnt there for the benfit of the consumer

The reality is there isn’t the infrastructure in place to keep pace with transition to EV cars. Smart systems for load management are going to be a big thing in the next few years. Off peak tariffs and steering domestic users to nighttime charging are just a part of it.

Phase 2 of the government plan is still on the drawing board the problem there having is data security as the sim card in the charger has personal details sims are controlled through a third party and not your energy suppler
Sims come with a service charge and finally I hope this helps members of this forum

I have a phev and still can't decide whether it is worst of all worlds or best of both, but information like this doesn't encourage me to go full ev.

The last thing the Government wants is for people to get anything for free.

Solar + house battery = free power.

Use that power to charge the car = drive for free.

I have a meeting on Wednesday with one of the UK suppliers of EV Charging regarding back office software as the government won't to charge company EV Drivers and I will have to monitor the charging at head office for tax purposes at present I will have to pay £134 per socket per year for back office software so double charge point
£268 per year for software hope this gives you an insight into an installers problem's
