Exhaust issues

Hi again everyone, just over a year ago I had my exhaust replaced but since a few months ago, I've had a rattle coming from the mid box area. Popped down to a local longlife shop and they said I could either upgrade the whole system to a s/s for 380 quid or just replace the mid box for 70. He did say however the majority of the exhaust was fine, just the baffle in the mid box. So I'm kind of thinking which would be better financially/performance wise. What do you all think? It's exhausting me!

Don't know which model you have but £380 for a full Longlife s/s sounds very reasonable - are you sure the quote is not for cat back?
Performance wise it's negligible/arguable but if you are looking to keep car long-term it's worth going s/s on cat back.
What was the guarantee on your current system - low budget cats are usually only 1 year but a mid muffler box should be longer.

It's an M44 and yes 380 for the cat back. Just wondering why this exhaust has gone kaput already. Not sure if it had a guarantee, was quite an unknown brand, Benson or something

If it was a `cheapo' then that's the risk we all take.
Just thought did they actually put car on ramp listen to it and confirm it was definitely mid-box - rattle is also a sign of cat failing. They are close to each other on the M44.
If you are planning on long-term ownership go for the s/s cat back (Longlife can usually tune it to suit your preferences).

The bloke took a look underneath and hit it and he confirmed it was coming from the mid box. Thankfully it's not the cat as I've gave it a whack a few times in the past as well and it was silent. Looks like I'll be going down the stainless route, cheers
