Morning all,

found this car on AutoTrader, exact same colour as the one my friend just bought but his got a cream roof this has black, which is easier to keep clean! not sure on darker 107's but can either get them refurbished or swap!

https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classi...ed&colour=Burgundy&transmission=Manual&page=1

I checked the MOT history and there are 3 advisories, I highly doubt they have been fixed, how costly are these to repair?
  • Offside Front brake binding slightly
  • steering creak (would this be a new steering rack fix?)
  • Offside Rear o/s handbrake do not lock (how could it pass with this then?)
I have found another car, 2006 similar miles but over 300 miles away and couple of grand more than this! but as this is closer, might be worth considering.

also, what sort of realistic price would you put on this? as the colour combo is not to everybody's taste and that limits the market

thanks in advance

New caliper £50 or so .
Handbrake does not have to lock out to pass an mot only has to make a percentage more than 16 % overall brake force evenly distributed by both sides so 1 could lock and the other not and still pass .
Steering could be a multitude of things from a rack to a column bush to a suspension arm bush would need to be investigated.
Hope that helps a bit .
Stephen.

thanks Stephen, I was reading about the steering creak and as you said, could be all sorts of things?!

forgot to say, what do you think of the car in general? I don't think the photos are recent, but looks in good shape

I personally like the colour scheme. I generally allow £500 or so when buying a second hand car to fix it up - most sellers have faults that they have not addressed. The advisories should come well within this allowance, perhaps not if a new steering rack is required. Don't know much about Z4s though, is the rack electronic? Think I would get the car inspected by a competent workshop, there may be a reason why the car is £2K cheaper than others!

thanks @Ianmc

the price difference is due to this car being a pre-facelift 3.0 M54 on 53 plate and the other being a facelift 3.0si N52 with more spec, sport seats, upgraded oem sound system, navigation, PDC, etc.

That could well explain things. I like cars with all the factory extras that the original buyer paid for. Extras don't normally add much value though when the car is 15 years old, perhaps £500 tops IMO. Don't know enough about Z4s to factor in the facelift value.

completely agree on options, certain things I can add like sport seats, hard to come buy but still out there, rear clear lights, etc.

my mate is just coming round so I can see how do I like the colour combo in the flesh ;)

Colour combo looks good. Car does look pretty straight, but photos can deceive. When i looked for mine viewed plenty that looked good in the photos but in reality they did not match.

I have emailed the seller with one or 2 (maybe few more) questions, see what they come back with.

my mate just came round in his, looks great, few marks here and there but as expected with a car in that age range.

the marks on second hand cars (or 3rd 4th 5th and so on) I always consider as honesty marks.
I would rather someone leave the trolley ding than try to hide it.
