I have recently bought an original bmw first aid kit

I wondered was their any special location that bmw intended it to be stored in, like in the e46's ?

Thanks Chris

There was a small locating clip fitted on the left hand side of the boot with a medical + on it. The clips go for crazy money!

Ok interesting… I will try and find a photo of it and maybe it is 3D printable?

Thanks for the help

Did all models have that? Mine originally belonged to my dad and I thought it had all the original stuff (has the original window protector, for example), but I don't recall seeing that. It does have the original took kit.

Mine never had that when UK delivered in Feb‘98. The first aid kit was just loose in the boot.

I put an extra storage net behind the passenger seat for documentation & hi-vis vests when I'm in Europe. It works really well. Just beware with first aid kit though that you are going to lose an inch of leg room (sounds trivial but makes a big difference if you need it!) or you're going to crush the kit.

The idea on pre-facelift models was to stick the first aid kit in the bin at the RH corner of the boot, but I keep mine in the storage compartment between the roll over bars, along with the day-glow jackets - it is about all it is fit for.

In Germany it is not only the law that every car and truck carries a first aid kit but also that the kit comprises of certain components. (DIN13164 says what must be in the kit) So a carrier bag with a few bandages and sticking plasters won't do.

It's also the law that if you are involved in or even just witness a traffic accident you are legally required to give assistance. Drivers involved in or witnessing an accident are required to get the first aid kit from the injured person's vehicle AND know how to use it.

"Unterlassene Hilfeleistung" (failure to assist) is a serious offence.

Whereas in the UK filming it on your mobile and putting it on YouTube is the biggest assistance anyone will receive!
Not only is this not an offence, but it will get many views and 'likes'.

The German mentality is different to ours, much more minor law abiding. When living in Germany, always seemed strange that pedestrians wouldn't use a crossing until the green light came on, even if nothing was on the road.

and Germans are actually capable of using their indicators, unlike many/most over here. Amazing what a few spot-fines will encourage.

The Germans also require that your first aid kit includes rubber gloves, as older kits from pre-AIDS days may not. Another consideration is that many items may be past their shelf life, and should be replaced as a matter of course. The kit on my BMW motorcycle would be 45 years old if nothng had been replaced - hardly fit for life saving! Those with a fetish for originality should leave the original kit sealed up, and simply replace it - they ae cheap enough when you consider they may be used to save YOUR life . . . Of course, the Little Englanders probably see beam converters, fire extinguishers, first aid kits, and warning triangles as being unwanted requirements of the European Evil Empire! Perhaps they would prefer to bleed to death by the roadside as a sign of freedom!

My BMW motorcycle kit incudes what they describe as being a 'Bum Dressing' . . .

I was never sure if all the on-the-spot fines were just pocketed as a perk of the job. They'd pull you over for a minor offence, say 'That'll be 30 Marks thank you' and he'd pull a roll out of his pocket and tear off a little bus ticket sized thing with '30' on it and that was your receipt. They probably had rolls of those things lying around in the cop shop canteen.

Reminds me, one time, driving a taxi, long time ago, can't remember what I'd done wrong, got pulled over. Cop came over to give me a lecture but decided to hit me with the 30 Mark fine instead. Maybe he didn't like the look of the pig dog englander. I fished 30 out of my pocket and he said, 'one moment, I'll get your receipt' and away he went back to his car. He came back. Handed me the receipt and walked away leaving me sat there with the receipt in one hand and the 30 marks in the other. 🤷‍♂️

In the states my son and I were driving on the interstate when we saw a huge plume of black smoke go up about half a mile in front of us. We quickly came upon the scene of an accident where a semi (lorry?) was laying on its side in the median. The driver, clearly dazed and in shock, with some non-life-threatening injuries, was just climbing into the rear portion of the tractor. There were about a dozen cars stopped and everyone was just standing and filming the scene.

My son and I ran to help the driver. There was a small fire and it was clear that things could quickly escalate, yet he kept wanting to go back in to get more possessions. We convinced him it was too dangerous and led him over to the side of the road. About 40 seconds later the whole thing went up in a huge fireball. He would have likely been seriously burned if he was outside the cab or killed if he'd been inside the cab. Meanwhile, all the others were still just standing there filming. I'm pretty sure he'd have been seriously burned or killed had my son and I not been on the scene.

I really don't understand how people could just stand there and not help.
